David Warren Brubeck (December 6, 1920 – December 5, 2012) was an American jazz pianist and composer, considered to be one of the foremost exponents of cool jazz. He studied at the University of the Pacific. His best known group was the Dave Brubeck Quartet with saxofonist Paul Desmond (1924-1977), bassist Eugene Wright and drummer Joe Morello that he started in 1951.

Brubeck wrote a number of jazz standards, including ‘In Your Own Sweet Way’ and ‘The Duke’. His long-time musical partner, alto saxophonist Paul Desmond, wrote the saxophone melody for the Dave Brubeck Quartet's, ‘Take Five’, which has endured as a jazz classic on one of the top-selling jazz albums.

'Take five' is very popular in the Netherlands. It is featured in the Top 2000 of most popular tracks ever already for the past 23 years.
This year, 2021, it is number 1194 on the list.
In 1959 it reached no 15 in the Dutch charts.

In this exclusive live performance at the North Sea Jazz Festival of July 18, 1982 in the Hague, the Netherlands, the Dave Brubeck Quartet consists of:
Dave Brubeck, Piano
Chris Brubeck, bass guitar & bass trombone
