Today it would have been André Hazes' 71st birthday. Unfortunately this popular Dutch singer died
nearly 18 years ago. So today we commemorate this great Dutch singer of 'Dutch schlagers' (popular Dutch language music). André was also a great bluesfan and performed several blues standards in the Dutch AVRO tv-program LaLaLa Live. One of them was 'Satisfaction' by the Rolling Stones with great Dutch guitarist Jan Akkerman of Focus fame.

André Gerardus (André) Hazes (Amsterdam, June 30, 1951 – Woerden, September 23, 2004), also called André Hazes Sr. to distinguish him from his son of the same name, was a Dutch singer who was popular from the late 1970s with his contemporary form of the Dutch language repertoire. He is considered one of the most successful artists in the Netherlands, but also in Flanders. Hazes distinguished himself by singing sentimental songs in an accessible Dutch language.

André Gerardus (André) Hazes (Amsterdam, 30 juni 1951 – Woerden, 23 september 2004), ter onderscheiding van zijn gelijknamige zoon ook André Hazes sr. genoemd, was een Nederlandse volkszanger die vanaf de late jaren 70 populair was met zijn eigentijdse vorm van het levenslied. Hij geldt als een van de succesvolste artiesten van Nederland, maar ook in Vlaanderen. Hazes onderscheidde zich door sentimentele liederen te zingen in toegankelijke Nederlandse taal.

Tot zijn grootste hits behoren Eenzame kerst (1976), Een beetje verliefd (1981), Ik meen 't (1985), Wij houden van Oranje (1988), Bloed, zweet en tranen (2002), en postuum Zij gelooft in mij (2004, maar oorspronkelijk uit 1981) en Blijf bij mij (met Gerard Joling, 2007). Hazes bracht minstens 300 verschillende nummers uit op 36 albums (exclusief compilatie-albums).
