According to music theory, A = 432 Hz is «mathematically consistent with the universe». This is known as Verdi's 'A' – named after Giuseppe Verdi, the Italian opera composer. He wasn’t the only one to use A = 432 Hz tuning: other composers did the same, as music at this frequency is said to be softer, brighter, and easier on the ears. Before the mid-20th century, 432 Hz was the standard of instrumental tuning, but since then a different tuning has become the norm.
Some theorists and musicians claim that the 432 Hz tuning can be physically and psychologically beneficial. The 432 Hz frequency is loved by many for its deeply calming and soothing effects. A recent double-blind study from Italy showed that music tuned to 432 Hz slows down the heart rate. This frequency seems to fill the mind with feelings of peace and well-being, making it the perfect accompaniment for gentle exercise, meditation, concentration, studying, or sleep.
