The hit '1950' is the focus of this week's episode - Jake speaks to American singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Mikaela Straus, better known by her stage name King Princess, about the making of the song, queer representation, how her gender identity impacts her music and her influences.

Her platinum certified debut single 1950 has had over 21 million views on YouTube and been streamed over 550 million times on Spotify.

Mikaela was literally born into music, spending much of her childhood hanging out
at her dad’s Brooklyn recording studio learning bass, guitar, piano, drums
and music production. She turned down an offer of a recording contract at
just 11 years old, finally signing with Mark Ronson’s Zelig label at 19. Since
then her unapologetic, overtly queer lyrics and gender ambiguous style has
established her as a significant new queer voice. She has 2 studio albums
and an EP to her name.
