Peter Tosh was a founding member of The Wailers, alongside Bob Marley and Bunny Wailer. He gave voice to the fight against racism, colonialism, and social injustice. In 1979, he released the track “Buk-In-Hamm Palace,” a wordplay on Buckingham Palace. In this satirical protest song, he denounces the British monarchy as a symbol of oppression and calls for the legalization of marijuana. With lines like “You can’t blame the youth / They see the truth”, he portrays young people as clear-eyed witnesses of injustice. Tosh is also known for his hits “Johnny B. Goode” (also on our channel), “I’m the Toughest” and his duet with Mick Jagger, “(You Gotta Walk) Don’t Look Back”. On September 11, 1987, he was brutally murdered in his home in Kingston, Jamaica, during a violent robbery. He was 42 years old. This recording was made by TROS TV Program TROS TOP 50 and broadcast on July 7, 1979.
