Lou & The Hollywood Bananas was a Belgian novelty pop band fronted by singer and producer Lou Deprijck, who previously found success with Two Man Sound and their disco-latin hit “Disco Samba (1977).” In 1979, Lou & The Hollywood Bananas broke through with the catchy single “Kingston, Kingston,” which became a summer hit across Europe, reaching the Top 10 in France and Top 20 in Germany. Their music blended reggae, disco, and humor into an infectious sound. Other tracks like “Hollywood, Hollywood” and “A.B.C.D.” gained moderate success. Deprijck was a key figure in the Belgian pop scene of the 1970s and 1980s. With over 20 million copies of his compositions sold worldwide, he ranks among Belgium’s best-selling artists. He is best known for co-writing and producing Plastic Bertrand’s 1977 punk-pop classic “Ça plane pour moi,” together with lyricist Yves Lacomblez. Lou Deprijck died on 19 September 2023 in a Brussels hospital. He was 77 years old. This recording was made by TROS TV Program TROS TOP 50 and broadcast on April 28, 1979.
