Across six decades of leadership and innovation, visionary record executive Clive Davis helped discover, develop and launch into fame some of the most influential artists of all time, including Whitney Houston, Alicia Keys, Barry Manilow, Bruce Springsteen, and numerous others. From his early days leading Columbia Records to founding Artista Records and J Records, Davis built a legacy admired for his unmatched appreciation for talent and unwavering belief in the power of great songs.
Davis' legacy is deeply intertwined with the Recording Academy, where he became a respected and beloved figure of Grammy history. A four-time Grammy winner, Davis was honored with the Recording Academy Trustees Award in 2000 and later the President's Merit Award in 2009, recognizing his significant contributions to the music industry and the field of recording.
For more than 15 years, Davis partnered with the Recording Academy to host the annual Pre-Grammy Gala, bringing together legendary performers, rising stars, and industry leaders to honor musical excellence every year on the Saturday night before the Grammy Awards. The event celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2025, a milestone that emphasized his enduring influence on the Recording Academy as well as the music community at-large.
