Coming off the back of her excellent 2012 "Homeschool" EP—with OFWGKTA's The Internet on production duties—earlier this year the Orlando-born, NY-based Kilo Kish dropped her debut mixtape K+, which killed us all over again. Featuring ten super-chill, R&B-inflected grooves, with collaborators including SBTRKT, Childish Gambino, A$AP Ferg, Flatbush Zombies, and Earl Sweatshirt, among others, Kish's girl-ish sing-speak, gives each tune a coolly confident edge.

A former fine art student at Pratt and a graduate of NY's Fashion Institute of Technology, for Kish—born Lakisha Robinson—music is just one part of the puzzle. The 23-year-old is heavily involved in designing both her record artwork and her t-shirt designs, while the release of K+ was accompanied by a multimedia exhibition that documented every part of the creative and collaborative process. Kish is more than just a blank canvas for producers to project upon: she's a vocalist and lyricist whose scope is 360 degrees.

Noisey caught up with the Kish the day after her show on the Lower East side to talk about the influence of New York on her music, her ongoing love affair with painting, and her alter ego Champagne.
