In the 1960's and 70's, Trans-Am racing featured two classes, based on displacement. Both classes raced on track at the same time, and went about their business in different ways. The brutish Mustangs and Camaros made times with horsepower, churning 500 ponies from their 5.0L V8's. Then, the European competitors, with engines 2.0L and under, made their times with finesse, lightness, and balance. This Alfa Romeo GTA is a proper lightweight racing special that raced in period! With a hot twin-plug head from its (recently) upsized 1750CC engine, it makes one of the more glorious sounds a race car could make.
