Mortal Kombat is the brutalist champion of the arcade fighter. With its tell tale aesthetic the game has carved out a unique niche in the fighting game genre. Where other games would use cartoonish characters drawn in pixels, Mortal Kombat used photo images with modeling to create a ‘real’ feel to the otherwise unreal environment for the game that grounded the savage brutality. While all fighting games have been about punching and kicking and knocking out your opponent, Mortal Kombat took it to another level, including with the finishing moves after a player wins. Now Mortal Kombat has started taking on guest appearances from sci fi characters like Robocop and the Terminator and horror monsters like Freddie, Jason, Micheal Meyers, and Candyman. So who else can we bring into the Outworld tournament? There are characters who live in the kind of darkness of the Mortal Kombat world like Ghost Rider, or characters who savagery are Mortal Kombat ready, like the symbiotes Venom and Carnage or Wolverine. Maybe there are some seemingly unstoppable forces that could meet their match, like the super assassin John Wick or the sometimes good, sometimes bad Saiyen Vegeta. There are some characters who are arena ready, like Gladiator Hulk, and some that would be a much needed poke in the eye of the tournament like Deadpool or The Maxx. We’re going to take a look at ten characters that would be awesome to see in the shifting sands of the Mortal Kombat tournament.
