Spider-man is known for his amazing friends and enemies as much as he is for doing whatever a spider can. One of his amazing friends was created specifically for Spider-man for the cartoon series Spider-man and his Amazing Friends. In that series he was supposed to rekindle his relationship with the Human Torch, a friendship almost as old as the characters themselves. Just like how rights have kept characters apart in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, rights did the same thing in cartoons and the Human Torch was replaced by Angelica Jones, otherwise known as Firestar. Since then Firestar has worked her way into the Marvel Comics proper establishing her as an important youth character in the Hellions and Youth in Revolt as well as a member of the two marque teams, the X-Men and the Avengers. Peter’s new love interest in the MCU, MJ, is already not the MJ that we know, but what if she’s not MJ at all, but Angelica Jones who is about to have her mutant heat powers heat up? It’s possible that one of the big twists we’ll see for the third MCU installment of Spider-man is that his new girlfriend is also a mutant with powers all her own. In fact, that could set up Zendaya’s MJ/Firestar as the...torchbearer... for a new generation of heroes in the MCU going forward. Let’s look at how that all could happen.
