It’s not just the costumed crime fighters from the pages of Marvel and DC Comics that are trying to make their shared movie universes work. Over at Legendary Films they’ve taken the Kaiju legends of Toho Pictures and created a shared universe. The way they’ve avoided the pitfalls of other pretenders to the shared universe magic is to keep things simple. The only two worlds they need to merge are Godzilla and the big ape from Tinseltown, King Kong. To that end, the two Godzilla movies are split by Kong: Skull Island that visits the future Godzilla foe on his home turf. Now that Godzilla has taken down Monster Zero himself, King Ghidorah, the two titans are on a collision course. But it appears that this won’t be their first round. No we’re not talking about the 1964 original film. The Titans have gone to war before, and it appears it might have been for who gets to be an inny and who gets to be an outy. That is, in regards to the surface of the earth, with the Earth being hollow, allowing all these giant monsters to disappear from us regular sized folks. What is the history of these giant Kaiju wars and what can they tell us about what’s about to come? Well, we read the literal writing on the wall and what we know about giant monsters these days to parse out what’s up with the Titan Wars and get some idea of what the second one might look like.
