Shakespeare References in Rap Lyrics: An Animated History

Leading up to the premiere of its new series Will, TNT teamed up with Genius to present some of the best Shakespeare references in rap.

Though Shakespeare and hip-hop have a long history, certain artists have referenced the bard more than others. Most recently, JAY-Z quoted Hamlet on “Marcy Me” off of his latest album, '4:44.'

But the Brooklyn rapper’s affinity for Shakespeare goes back further than this, with a Macbeth reference on 2006’s “Do U Wanna Ride” and a Julius Caesar reference on 2013’s “FuckWithMeYouKnowIGotIt.”
