One of Cynthia's favorite Billie Holiday songs which was written by Billie Holiday and Arthur Herzog Jr. is "God bless the Child" released in 1942, two years after the singers previous single, "strange fruit". The song was recorded on May 9, 1941 in New York City by Holiday and was joined by Eddie Heywood and his Orchestra who backed her on several other occasions. I holidays version of the song was honored with a gram of fame award in 1976. The RIAA also included it on their list of the "songs of the century." ~ The Black Anthem
