Funk is the most exciting genre of music in Brazil right now, with artists lighting up both national stages and neighborhood baile funk parties. But not everyone is a fan. In the past few years, multiple funk artists have been shot—sometimes even onstage while performing—leading artists and others to suspect the artists have become part of a proxy struggle between São Paulo’s powerful gangs and the city's law enforcement.

In episode two of NOISEY on VICELAND, we venture to Brazil and explore the São Paulo music scene with Diplo and Walshy Fire from Major Lazer and their latest collaborator, a young São Paulo artist named MC Bin Laden. Through their lens, host Zach Goldbaum not only gets an inside look at the scene that produces some of the wildest music in South America, but moreover, examines the city’s potentially corrupt police force that may not only be allowing violence in the city to occur, but could even be the ones orchestrating it.

Watch the trailer for NOISEY São Paulo, which airs on Tuesday, March 8 at 10 PM on VICELAND.
