The XL1 was VW's idea of a car of the future, 10 years ago. It was supposed to do around 300mpg, equating to about a litre of fuel for 100 kilometres, but how economical is it really, away from a lab? We took one on an economy run for around 100 kilometres to see how it really stacks up, with a target of 200mpg...
