Google Pixel phones are known for their clean Android UI, exceptional camera quality, and features like Call Screening and Hold for Me. The launch of the new Pixel 9 series brings new features to explore, and this video is taking a quick look.
Each new Android hardware or software launch brings the next evolution of features. The launch of the Pixel 9 series and Android 15 means Google has added in new features to discover, such as:
Screenshots
The new Pixel Screenshots app is for those who take screenshots but never come back to them. The app lets you search for info in your screenshots by typing it in the search bar, or asking Gemini.
Circle to Search
Circle to Search is a recent feature on many Android phones to let you circle objects on your screen and then search for it via Google Image Search. Useful for clothes shopping, referencing new cuisine options, and much more. To activate Circle to Search, simply hold the home button or navigation bar at the bottom of the screen, then draw a circle around what you want to search for.
Add Me
New camera features are next. Pixel devices are widely agreed to have high quality images, but often the software is what makes these phones really stand out. Google has a new feature called Add Me which combines two photos to create a composite. It can be used for good (allowing people who always have to take group photos to actually be in them) or for more suspect reasons (faking images). Use it by opening the camera, tapping Add Me, taking the first photo then swapping out who actually takes the photo, while the second person is added in by AI afterwards. What do you think of this feature? Let us know in the comments.
Magic Editor
Pixel’s Magic Editor allows users of any ability level to make complex graphical edits. If you want to reframe a photo so that your subject is at the center, or change the sky or background to fit the mood, or remove unwanted objects or details from the photo, Magic Editor can handle it all. It’s not always perfect, but it’s impressive when it works, and great for quick social media uploads.
Thermometer
Finally, the Pixel 8 series generated much discussion with its Thermometer app, allowing the phone’s temperature sensor to measure the temperature of objects like a hot drink. It now works on humans as well as objects. Useful if you’re feeling unwell outside of your home. You can check yourself for a fever on the go! The camera app will help target exactly what you want to measure, and results are saved to reference later.
Other new or improved features, such as improved underwater photography, astrophotography, and theft protection will have to wait for another time. Let us know if you want to see a future video about them!
