Kingston interviews key figures from edge computing specialist and long-term partner Premio Inc. Pivoting from an initial focus on education, Premio now concentrates on embedded tech and edge computing: devices intended for use in industrial or otherwise physically-demanding environments.
Edge computing is thus called because the computers exist on the edge of the network, not in the data center or server room. They perform most or all of their own tasks, as opposed to shunting data to the cloud. This promotes efficiency, autonomy, and productivity.
However, edge computing requires components that can stand up to unpredictable conditions such as extremes of temperature and variable voltages. With the help of technology vendors such as Kingston, Premio are building rugged edge computing systems able to resist shock, vibration, and high variation in operating temperatures and power input, among other things.
A new factor in the requirements for edge computing is the ability to handle the technological demands of AI. This means more need for processing power.
Premio has carefully considered which partners to work with in order to bring its ruggedized edge computing to the marketplace. Only with a complex ecosystem of vendors can they deliver the products they need. Reliability is one of their primary requirements, and that is why Premio has stuck with Kingston for decades. Kingston’s industry-leading reputation and increased focus on industrial computing makes us highly suitable partners for Premio. We prioritize service and quality, to deliver components that make the future of industry possible.
