A GTI for the company car army; the 181bhp VW Golf GTD is more than the un-popular sibling.
VW is showcasing the MK7 Golf GTD at Geneva 2013. If you want hot hatch performance with added MPG, the GTD may well be just the ticket. VW's all new MQB is under pinning many models but this oil burner is set to be one of the quiet stars. With 181bhp and a more important 280lb ft, the new 2.0-litre turbo diesel has 13bhp & 22lb ft more than Mk VI Golf. It will hit 62 mph in 7.5 seconds and run out to 143mph max speed while returning 60.1mpg and 109g/km if fitted with the optional DSG 'box.
Wider sills, a prominent tailgate spoiler, rear diffuser, chromed tailpipe and standard 17" alloys on lowered sports springs mark this out as the most special diesel Golf in the range. Not many all-rounders will beat the thinking man's GTI.
