The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has released a study for 2014-2016 passenger vehicles revealing the cheapest and most expensive cars to crash. By using collision claims data, IIHS and HLDI can give consumers an idea of how expensive it is to repair a particular vehicle following an accident. The data is broken down into three categories: claim frequency, claim severity, and overall losses. Claim frequencies are per 100 insured vehicle years, while claim severity is average loss payment per claim. The overall losses are average payments per insured vehicle year.
