The Dakar Rally is insane. Yes, it runs like any other rally, just further (a lot further) and on far more extreme terrain, from boulder fields to endless sand dunes and everything in between. To find out how this two-week off-road epic worked, we sent Top Gear Magazine’s Ollie Marriage to the Saudi desert for the 2022 Dakar Rally to ask: what exactly does it take to organise and observe the world’s most brilliantly chaotic race?
