£48,000 for a Golf?! GTI Edition 50 tested on road and track

To celebrate 50 years of the hot hatch icon, Volkswagen has launched the Golf GTI Edition 50.

But with a starting price of £47,995, this is no budget-minded bargain. In this review, Matt Saunders heads to the Parcmotor Castellolí circuit in Spain to test VW's claims that this track day special can keep up with Porsche GT cars.

Does this 321bhp anniversary special - complete with the £3675 "Performance Package" featuring 50% more negative camber, an Akrapovič titanium exhaust and Bridgestone semi-slick tires - live up to the hype, or is it just an expensive trim level?
