What comes with 296bhp, 280lb ft and looks like a painted egg? Why, the new Audi S3, that's what.
Audi has unveiled a true sleeper at Paris 2012. The new S3 is, if we're honest, not the most exciting of cars. It's largely in keeping with the standard A3 which means that while it's not the most visually dramatic vehicle, it'll give boy racers, chaps in sports cars and your mum a hell of a shock from the lights.
It comes with either a seven-speed auto or a six-speed manual and will hit 62mph from rest in 5.1 and 5.4seconds depending on how you like to swap cogs. A 155mph top speed is a given with power figures like that.
Audi's keen to hit the ground running with the S3 as the likes of the Mercedes-Benz A45 AMG, BMW M135i and the VW Golf R are looking to eat up a large chunk of fast hatch buyers. The S3 is Audi's declaration to the world that you don't need big vents, spoilers and a knife behind your back to make a fast hatch, you just need an engine the size of Grenoble and a set of subtle quad exhausts at your rear.
