The McLaren P1, McLaren's most extraordinary road car, their representation of the 'world's best drivers car' sends over 900 HP to the rear wheels, and through an open differential. Why might that be? The McLaren does take advantage of using braking strategies to maximize acceleration, and optimize cornering. While accelerating out of a corner, by braking the inside rear tire slightly, the open diff (which always splits torque 50/50) is able to apply a greater wheel force to the outside rear tire.
