Rotary engines are a beautiful feat of engineering innovation in the world of internal combustion engines. They're compact, powerful, smooth, and high revving. The king of rotaries must then be the four-rotor engine, doubling the displacement of typical 2-rotor engines, producing insane amounts of power from a very small package. The R26B is one example used on the Mazda 787B, which was the first car using something other than a reciprocating piston engine to win the 24 Hours of Le Mans. So how does it work? What's the firing order? Why? Let's find out!
