2016 Toyota Rav4 AWD Review - Offroad Testing. The 2016 Toyota Rav4 features a 2.5L engine, 6 speed automatic, and available front wheel drive or all wheel drive. There's also a AWD Hybrid Rav4 model offered. The engine produces 176 HP and 172 lb-ft of torque, and the vehicle is rated at 22 mpg city 29 mpg highway, with 6.3" of ground clearance. The all wheel drive system consists of an electromagnetically control clutch which locks up the drivetrain to send power to the rear, splitting the torque 50/50. When the rear coupler is not locked, torque split can vary from 50/50 to 100/0, with all of the power sent to the front axle to save fuel in scenarios where rear power isn't needed.
