What are the differences between the Scion FRS and the Subaru BRZ? Which one is better? In this video we’ll be comparing the Subaru BRZ and the Scion FRS, and looking at purely mechanical differences that have an impact on performance.

1. Starting things off with weight, the FRS weighs less than the base model Subaru, regardless of if it’s auto or manual. 6 lbs less for the manual, 18 for the auto.

2. The FRS also has a better drag coefficient. 0.27 vs .28 for the BRZ with spoiler or .29 for the BRZ without spoiler. The Series.Blue BRZ however does have a drag coefficient of 0.27.

3. According to Eibach, the FRS has slightly softer springs up front and slightly stiffer springs in the rear. All else equal, this would make the FRS slightly less prone to understeer.

4. The FRS offers dealer installed performance options such as larger sway bars in both the front and rear (20.6mm/15.8mm) vs stock (18mm/14mm). Though there probably isn’t any reason why they wouldn’t fit in the BRZ, they aren’t offered as options.

5. The FRS also offers a TRD air intake kit, as well as a TRD exhaust, which I measured to have a 3.6 mm larger outer diameter vs the exhaust on the Subaru.

6. The optional STI wheels for the BRZ weigh approximately 3 lbs lighter than the standard 17” alloys on the FRS. I measured 38.4 lbs vs 41.2 lbs.

7. According to the spec sheets, the Subaru has a slightly smaller turning circle. This may be a difference in how it is measured, as there doesn’t seem to be any mechanical difference between the steering systems.

8. The Subaru BRZ Series.Blue has red brake calipers; hence it is superior.
