Corbin Goodwin gives his diagnosis of VF's trans leak. Sorry for the camera-handling-noises. The leak is coming from the Ford-O-Matic's front main seal where the imput shaft meets the transmission. The ATF leaked down from the front, blew back along that protective shroud from the wind, and splattered on the bottom of the transmission pan, giving the appearance that the transmission pan gasket was the culprit (which it my never have been).
This leaves me with two choices:
#1 Fix the Ford-O-Matic--- I can drop the transmission out, replace the seal and put the 2-speed box right back. That would stop the leak and make the car drivable but I would still be left with the tired old 144ci engine which has it's own grocery list of problems.
#2 Skip right to the swapping the drivetrain with a 302 V8 and a Ford AOD transmission.
