Deep diving into the Hummer EV; a vehicle I’m not sure I’ve ever had such conflicting thoughts about. On one hand, it’s a brilliant vehicle, wildly capable off-road, and genuinely feels like it has the ability to embarrass both the Ford Raptor and Ram TRX in any scenario, but on the other hand, it appeared on the cover of Time Magazine with a quote about “engineering a greener future.”

There are three 250 kW electric motors, which combined give you 1,000 horsepower and 1200 lb-ft of torque. So despite weighing over 9,000 lbs, GM claims it’ll reach 60 miles per hour in just 3 seconds. Now, allowing those three electric motors to provide an absurd launch is a massive battery pack; at over 2900 lbs, the battery pack alone weighs more than an entire Subaru BRZ. This battery has 205 kWh of energy available to use.

It’s not a gimmick, it’s really quick, and it’s really capable off-road. Plain and simple, it’s very impressive to drive. But it also feels like a colossal waste of resources, and considering it weighs nearly as much as all three of cars that I own combined, I sincerely hope I never meet one in a collision. But I like it. I mean, I do. Dang. Watch the video for all the details.

The electric emissions per kWh charged are based on the average US electrical grid. Some states will be better/worse. Renewable charging (ie. solar) will dramatically improve this number.
