If you hear a squealing, rattling or thumping under your 4 wheel drive car or SUV, it might be a drive shaft problem! Drive shafts have universal or constant velocity joints in order to connect the transmission and differential at angles and to sustain motion from the suspension. Over time these joints can become seized or too loose from corrosion and wear, leading to excessive noise, vibration, or damage. In some vehicles you can replace just the joints, or even components of the joints. But in other vehicles you need to replace the entire drive shaft. How do you know which to do for your vehicle?
