An appeal to sympathy, also known as an appeal to pity or "argumentum ad misericordiam", is a logical fallacy that attempts to win support for an argument by playing on people's emotions. It worked on me when I was buying a classic car and the owner had a "medical bag" attached to his body. I gave him his full price.
