The importance of tires is often undervalued – is there a single more meaningful component to a car than tires? To answer this question, we’ll pit a BMW M3 against a PT Cruiser. Obviously, the M3 is the better performance vehicle, but can tires alone allow the PT Cruiser to overcome the BMW M3? The BMW will be on a set of budget performance tires, while the PT Cruiser will be on a set of premium all-season touring tires. We’ll put this to the test with three demonstrations: wet handling, wet braking, and dry braking. Finally, we’ll put the BMW on a proper set of Continental UHP summer tires, and see what it can do with the right equipment.
