2025 Indian Challenger and Chieftain PowerPlus 112 First Ride Review

Indian Motorcycle’s 2025 touring lineup takes a bold step forward with the introduction of a new PowerPlus 112, but that's just the tip of the bagger iceberg as the whole lineup will also receive a dose of modern technology. At the heart of this update is the liquid-cooled PowerPlus 112 V-Twin engine, now available alongside the well-established 108ci (1,768cc) version. The new PowerPlus 112 delivers 126 horsepower and 133 lb-ft of torque at 3,600 rpm, edging out the 108’s 122 horsepower and 128 lb-ft at 3,800 rpm. This marks a significant power boost, ensuring a thrilling ride.

For 2025, Indian’s four key bagger models — Challenger, Pursuit, Chieftain, and Roadmaster — now offer both the 112ci and 108ci engine options. This brings a major shift for the traditionally styled Chieftain and Roadmaster, which previously only featured the air-cooled Thunderstroke engine. In addition, these models now share the same modern chassis of the Challenger and Pursuit, equipped with an inverted fork for improved handling. The Chieftain PowerPlus Limited and Challenger PowerPlus Limited both start at $30,499 when equipped with the 112ci engine, placing it in the premium touring category.

Beyond performance, Indian has upgraded the electronics to keep pace with modern expectations. The 7-inch touchscreen powered by Ride Command now features enhanced GPS navigation, Apple CarPlay, and improved Bluetooth connectivity. Exclusive to PowerPlus 112 models is the new with radar-based rear collision warning and blind-spot detection, adding an extra layer of safety out on the road. Ride modes and traction control further refine the riding experience, while the standard electronically controlled windshields add a layer of convenience. However, some downsides remain — braking performance needs to be stronger, buffeting on the Chieftain is noticeable, and the instrument cluster design feels a bit outdated.
