By all accounts, the Copper V3 riding jeans by Alpinestars is just another pair of riding jeans – and you know what? That’s basically true. However, I’ve worn them more than any other pair of riding denim I’ve owned for a few reasons. First, the Copper V3 doesn’t try to distinguish itself as something other than a pair of jeans, like riding denim I’ve had in the past. These comfort fit, five-pocket jeans have a straight leg cut that would be hard to tell apart from your average pair of non-riding jeans – I like that. The obvious difference are the aramid fiber panels placed in strategic areas (butt and knees, mainly) of the Copper V3. This gives it a little extra protection from abrasion and road rash should you become separated from your motorcycle.
Little details like pre-curved knees add a tiny bit of comfort while in the riding position but don’t feel out of place off the bike, either. Inside, CE Level 1 Nucleon Flex Plus knee armor is included and can be adjusted to one of three positions. There’s also a pocket for hip armor also, but you’ll have to buy those separately.
On top of all this, though, the feature I’ve come to really appreciate is the added inseam length compared to other jeans that follow normal, casual jean sizing. In my case, with the 32-inch waist size, the inseam comes out to 32.5 inches. When in the riding position, pant bottoms tend to rise, exposing my skin if I’m wearing riding shoes. The Copper V3’s additional inseam covers the top of my riding shoes so there’s nothing exposed while seated. It’s a little detail, but I like it.
