What’s the fastest car around the Nurburgring? You might think it’s the Mercedes-AMG One, which set a blistering lap of 6 minutes 29 seconds. That’s fast; consider a somewhat normal sports car, like the Honda Civic Type R, takes about 7 minutes 45 seconds, the fastest front wheel drive production car to ever do it! Yet, it's still over a full minute slower than the Mercedes. But there’s a car that makes the AMG One look as slow as the Civic. In 2018, Porsche took their 919 Hybrid Evo to the track, but, with a little extra spice. Porsche upped the power to 1,160 horsepower, in a vehicle that weighs under 2000 lbs, and they increased the aerodynamic downforce by fifty percent! The result, an unfathomable 5 minute, 19 second lap time, at an average speed of over 145 miles per hour. Bonkers - it’s a record that will likely never be broken, or will it?
