This is the Donkervoort P24 RS, and it’s what the Lotus (and Caterham) 7 might have become if that little sports car hadn’t stuck rigidly to its lithe formula. Instead, Donkervoort has evolved the recipe, embracing big power, aero, sticky tyres and even creating its own Formula 1-grade carbonfibre. The P24 RS still weights only 780kg, but is now pushed along by 600hp! It remains a lightweight then – in fact the only thing chunky about it is the price, at upwards of £300k – but is this an overpriced and overambitious 7 or an extreme lightweight thriller that proves the future of performance doesn’t have to be 1000hp+ plug-in hybrid supercars?
