ESPHome Bluetooth Proxy: why you need it and how to build one

In this video, I demonstrate a practical example of creating an ESPHome Bluetooth Proxy for Home Assistant based on the Seeed Studio XIAO ESP32-C6.
The task is simple: there is a HumsiENK LiFePO4 battery with a built-in Bluetooth BMS. When the battery is located near the Home Assistant server, the data is read normally. But once it is moved to another room, the Bluetooth signal no longer reaches it, and all sensors become unavailable.
The solution is to place a small ESP32 module with Bluetooth Proxy next to the battery. It receives data from the BMS via Bluetooth and then forwards it to Home Assistant over Wi-Fi. As a result, the server no longer needs to communicate directly with the battery through its own Bluetooth adapter.
In this video:
- create a new device in ESPHome Builder
- configure the Bluetooth Proxy
- flash the XIAO ESP32-C6 via USB
- add the device to Home Assistant
- verify the restoration of data from the Bluetooth BMS
- power the proxy directly from the battery using a 12 V → 5 V converter
This approach is suitable not only for battery BMS units but also for other Bluetooth devices that are out of range of the Home Assistant server.
