Infiniti's new VC-T is groundbreaking in that it now offers an engine with a variable compression ratio, meaning it can be driven with fuel economy or horsepower in mind, giving the driver the option. The engine is turbocharged to increase horsepower, but can also run on the Atkinson cycle for increased efficiency. When horsepower is desired, the compression ratio lowers to 8:1 and the turbo cranks up the boost. When you're cruising along on the highway, the compression ratio can go up to 14:1, vastly increasing the gas mileage of the vehicle.
