How do NHRA top fuel dragsters work? How does the Gumout & Dote Racing top fuel dragster produce 7,000 HP? Top fuel dragsters use 500 cu in engines running primarily nitromethane as fuel, to propel these vehicles over 300 mph in well under 4 seconds. The engines are rebuilt after every run in just 75 minutes.
