The Alpinestars SMX-6 V3 is the Italian brand's jack-of-all-trades sport boot, capable of racking up those commuting miles just as quickly as spinning laps at a trackday. Starting at $299.95 for the standard model (as of publishing this video), the SMX-6 V3 enters its third-generation by borrowing plenty of race-inspired protection features from its track-oriented cousin, the Supertech R boot, without sacrificing comfort or ease of use. The SMX-6 V3 offers a blend of durability and flexibility in a versatile full-sized boot. That means we have all the slide protection we could ask for from its leather construction, while the various plastic guards add additional safety measures, with the added benefit of much more overall protection than a "short" riding shoe.
Safety is a key focus with the V3 updated, which features refined elements in the SMX-6's lateral ankle bracing, a reinforced shin plate, and dual-density ankle protectors, all working together to help mitigate impact in a crash. Comfort hasn't been overlooked either — front and rear accordion flex zones enhance mobility, while a crush-proof footbed and lightweight rubber sole provide all-day riding comfort.
The SMX-6 V3 are offered in a few variants to suit your needs: standard, vented, and Stella (female). For those riding in wet weather, Drystar (+$45) and Gore-Tex (+$75) models are available as well. Size ranges from EU 36 to 50, and fit is average: be sure to reference the Alpinestars sizing chart. When it comes to protection, the SMX-6 V3 boast a CE-certification EN 13634:2017. Replaceable toe sliders and a streamlined, race-ready profile allow this boot to be worn under or over your riding pants, while the wide Velcro opening accommodates riders with wide calve sizing. What's the bottom line? The SMX-6 V3 offers a lot of boot for the money and one that road riders could serve as their do-it-all footwear.
