The Ford Mustang's solid rear axle is unique among modern sports cars, and so is the way the car handles in performance driving. Here we're demonstrating a common situation that can catch drivers off guard: hitting a bump with the inside wheel while speeding around a corner.

Why is that bad? Because a solid axle permanently connects the rear wheels, the forces experienced on one side get transferred through to the other.

So if that inside wheel hits a bump in the middle of a curve, the outside wheel is also disturbed while it's running at the limit of grip and trying to manage the increased load of the car as the body's weight shifts towards it. That's all it takes to lose traction and spin off the pavement.

Also, who doesn't love a good slow-mo shot?
