Simplicity goes a long way in my book. Sometimes, all you need are the basics when bopping around town, which is precisely what the Spidi Originals Enduro provides. Fashioned after a classic four-pocket utility jacket, the Enduro leans into a classic aesthetic while adopting highly breathable modern textile fabrics and CE-rated armor. This isn’t a race-inspired jacket or extremely technical ADV ensemble — this little number is designed for those who want to cruise on cruisers, hit the hot spots on their cafe racers, or ride vintage-themed standards while looking a bit dapper.

Constructed from high-tenacity polyester, the Spidi Originals Enduro jacket is ultra-lightweight and incredibly pliable, making break-in time non-existent. While its uniform appearance might suggest otherwise, the textile fabric allows considerable airflow, making this an excellent option for riding in hotter weather. However, it can still be used into the early spring or fall riding seasons by wearing a warming base layer. But if you’re facing sustained cold (we Californians would say sub-50 degrees Fahrenheit), we’d recommend a winterized jacket. A few creature comforts are on hand, including a soft corduroy collar to prevent chafing, as well as a non-removable mesh liner.

Those curious about the “Originals” portion of the name will be interested to know that “Originals” applies to the brand’s vintage-themed offerings. All products in the “Originals” line feature an understated vintage vibe and use the brand’s old-school “cat in helmet” logo, which dates back to its founding in 1977. In this case, Spidi’s cool cat is embossed on the brass-finished buttons and on the interior mesh liner.

On the safety front, the Spidi Originals Enduro jacket meets EN 17092-2:2017 Class A standards. In terms of slide protection, the single-A rating doesn’t offer the same abrasion resistance as AAA-rated usually seen in leather garments, though its airflow will be far superior. As an around-town or casual-cruising jacket, the Enduro remains effective. CE-rated Level 1 armor is provided in the shoulders and elbows, with a slot to accept an optional back protector. In contrast, we’d like to see CE-rated Level 2 armor installed, which owners can upgrade. Those that would like to take protection to the next level are encouraged to consider reaching for a stand-alone airbag system.

Spidi says its Originals Enduro is 50 percent waterproof, which is another way of saying it’s not. Having worn the Enduro in a few unexpected downpours, the synthetic polyester fabric does naturally repel water to an extent, and a light spritz won’t leave you feeling soggy. On the flip side, the synthetic material dries rapidly. Spidi offers thermal and waterproof accessory liners, but if the forecast looks grim, maybe opting for a jacket with proper weather protection would be the wisest choice.
Storage is generous with the four large external cargo pockets and one discreet stash pocket inside the left lapel — the local constable might miss that one, friends, though my phone tends to hang out there.

Adjustability is solid too: The waist, biceps, and wrists can be cinched down as you’d like, creating a closer fit if needed. Overall fit is on the sensible side of “fitted,” so it isn’t baggy by any means, nor do you have to be a Milan-based model to pull it over your shoulders. Other nifty motorcycle-specific features include reflective zones that do pop when hit with direct lighting.

The Spidi Originals Enduro is a clean, thoughtful, but above all else, simple riding jacket. Subtlety is part of the Spidi Originals product line, and that’s quite appealing when aiming for a refined, low-key look. For Summer riding, city runs, and doing things with a bit of style, the Spidi Originals Enduro might be for you and if you want more information, check out our full video review.
