2004 Jaguar XJ8: Regular Car Reviews
Опубликовано 17 января 2026, 15:00
Car reviews are out of touch with the people who actually buy cars. But how much of the blame falls on automotive journalists alone? In this episode of Fuel for Thought, I take a hard look at modern car reviews, automotive journalism, and car media, and explain why so many consumers no longer trust the people reviewing cars online and in print. From “price as tested” discrepancies and press car culture, to reviewers who don’t own cars, short-term testing, and algorithm-driven hyperbole, this essay breaks down where the disconnect comes from and how it happened.

This isn’t about calling out individual creators or publications. It’s about examining how car reviews are made, who they’re really for, and whether automotive journalists still serve a meaningful consumer function, or if they’ve become mostly entertainment. I also reflect on my own role as an automotive journalist, how YouTube algorithms shape content, and what reviewers, myself included, can do to rebuild trust, provide better information, and make reviews that actually help people decide what car to buy while providing a show entertaining enough to watch in the first place.
