Ducati has completely torn up the rulebook for its flagship middleweight adventure bike. The 2026 Ducati DesertX V2 undergoes a ground-up transformation, shifting from a retro "post-heritage" look into a razor-sharp, modern off-road weapon.
Ryan jetted off to the rocky, sun-baked trails of Almería, Spain, to see if this complete redesign retains the rowdy, slide-happy character we fell in love with on the original machine—or if it lost its soul along the way.
What’s New for 2026?
- The New V2 Platform: The DesertX gets the new 890cc spring-valve V2 engine. Say goodbye to the Desmodromic valvetrain, and hello to massive 28,000-mile valve intervals and 9,000-mile oil changes!
- Monocoque Frame: A radical aluminum monocoque chassis replaces the old steel trellis, using the engine as a stressed member and doubling as the airbox.
- Trailside Service Wins: Air filter access now requires just 3 screws at the front of the frame. No more stripping the bodywork. Plus, the rear wheel nut now uses a standard metric socket!
- Slimmer, Lower, Lighter: A lower 4.8-gallon tank brings the center of gravity down, making this 461 lb (dry) machine feel incredibly agile and light between the legs.
- Upgraded Suspension & Brakes: Fully independent adjustments on each KYB fork leg, a new progressive rear linkage layout, and lighter 305mm front discs for quicker steering.
Does the smoother torque delivery and lightweight handling make it a better ADV bike, or do the quickshifter fueling quirks hold it back? Watch the video to get our full first ride evaluation!
