OCZ's new IBIS SSD introduces two breakthrough innovations in storage.

First, they've sandwiched four SandForce SF-1200 controllers into a 3.5" aluminum chassis, along with a Silicon Image 3124 RAID controller. Because this configuration would require so much bandwidth to actually make use of the hardware (SATA 6Gbps and SAS were too slow), they decided to also go with a new interface they designed: HSDL.

HSDL stands for High Speed Data Link, and passes data through the PCIe interface on your motherboard. An included single-port HSDL PCIe card allows you to plug the IBIS into your motherboard, and effectively bypasses the bottleneck of SATA to allow this drive to pull some ridiculous benchmark numbers, such as 120,000 random IOPS (given the right conditions -- most storage benchmarking software can't max this drive out).

We'll be following up next week with a full review and benchmarks!
