With the Toyota TS030 vs Audi R18 battle at Race 4 of the 2012 WEC - World Endurance Championship on August 26 at Silverstone, Leo Parente and ShakeDown look at the history of Toyota Le Mans race cars, year by year. It all started with a version of the Toyota 7 in the late 1960's, but really kicked during the 80's and 90's. Fascinating cars and 3 close calls for a Toyota victory. But, never the win. In 2012, the TS030 emerged. Alan McNish of Audi, a past Toyota GT-One pilot, thinks Toyota will be a real fighter. Toyota wants 2012 WEC success to prep for a win at the 2013 LM24, 22 years after Mazda - the only Japanese brand to ever get it done, to date.
