Ancestry presents how they built a tailored and cost efficient logging system on AWS to provide real-time and on-demand application log access from thousands of applications. The architecture walks through ingesting logs from thousands of Amazon EC2 instances, Kubernetes, AWS Fargate containers and Amazon CloudWatch managed services logs, processing and indexing them with Amazon Kinesis, AWS Lambda, and securely storing historical data on Amazon S3 to meet SOX, HIPPA and PCI compliance. You'll also see how Ancestry optimizes costs by indexing logs into S3 allowing for on-demand access to historical logs (going as far back as 90 days) and on-demand access to real-time logs as they are collected and processed quickly ingesting them into Amazon ElasticSearch for searchability and removing them within 48 hours.
