Building a serverless-backed cloud IDE (Cloud Next '19)

Repl.it gives you an instant in-browser development environment to learn, build, collaborate, and host all in one place. Because Repl.it is used by millions of users it would be impossible to allocate a VM per user. Instead, we built the world's first serverless IDE -- each user is allocated a temporary and ephemeral container. In this talk, I'll describe the architecture, compute model, and design that enables this kind of cost-effective scale.
