When GRNet’s mandate expanded to provide networking, cloud and HPC services not only to Greece’s academic community but potentially to all of the country’s 8 million citizens, the potential for and impact of threats to the network skyrocketed. GRNet was facing a race against time to protect their systems before bad actors could leverage quantum computing to evade current encryption technologies.
