What do research and education networks (RENs) and deep sea whale calls have in common? Acoustic sensing capabilities can teach us more about both! With a subsea optical network from Nokia, Sikt (Norway’s agency responsible for the country’s REN) helps researchers observe wildlife monitoring and seismological event data on their desktop instead of in the field. At the same time, Sikt can monitor their underwater network cabling much more easily and share a vast amount of spectrum securely with other Nordic countries.
